Sid Vicious looked every bit the monster heel he portrayed in the ring . This kept him in-demand by promoters.

Sid Vicious Death – Cancer

1960-2024 (Age 63)

Sid Vicious was more a force of nature than a professional wrestler.

Standing at least 6’8” and weighing 275 pounds, opponents were lucky to survive against him, much less defeat him.

Vicious wrestled during a period when bigger meant better, earning major championships in WCW and the WWF.

Lord Humongous Becomes Sid Vicious

Sid Eudy was born in 1960 (although there are conflicting reports on the exact date). The impressive-looking wrestler would with Tojo Yamamoto before debuting in the Continental Wrestling Federation.

Working under a hockey mask as Lord Humongous, he would run roughshod in the promotion. Several wrestlers played Lord Humongous and Sid’s work as the fearsome heel stood out, suggesting  big things  lie ahead.

Eudy also would work in Memphis’ Championship Wrestling Association. There, he would defeat Brian Lee for the CWA Heavyweight Championship as Sid Vicious.

Striking It Big in WCW

Sid Vicious’ sheer size and look meant it was a question of when rather than if a major promotion would hire him. Vicious debuted in WCW in 1989. He would team with Dan Spivey as The Skyscrapers, a powerhouse team known for squashing opponents.

Unfortunately, Sid was sidelined with a broken rib and punctured lung he suffered during a match with The Steiner Brothers.

WCW would replace Sid with “Mean” Mark Callous (aka future Superstar The Undertaker) in The Skyscrapers. However, Sid was put into The Four Horsemen. He would team with Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and Barry Windham. Ole Anderson would serve as a defacto manager.

WWF Success

In 1991 Sid signed with the WWF. He would debut as Sid Justice, a babyface. Justice worked his first major match as special referee for “The Match Made in Hell.”

The 1991 SummerSlam event would see Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior team up to take on Sgt. Slaughter, Colonel Mustafa (aka The Iron Sheik) and General Adnan (aka Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey) in a handicap match.

Initially portraying a hero, Sid eventually turned heel after Hulk Hogan eliminated him from the 1992 Royal Rumble.

Hogan was already eliminated when he grabbed onto Sid’s arm from the outside, helping Ric Flair to eliminate Sid and win the WWF Championship. This led to Sid and Hogan clashing at WrestleMania VIII.

Flashes of Success

Sid Vicious proved he could draw. Unfortunately, backstage problems led to shortened runs in both WCW and the WWF.

Vicious’ biggest out-of-the-ring incident occurred when he was involved in a bloody altercation with fellow WCW wrestler Arn Anderson that allegedly saw Vicious stab Anderson with a pair of scissors.

Despite his setbacks, Sid would win both the WCW World Championship and WWF Championship twice. Vicious’ ability to sell tickets and pay-per-views would never be in question.

Sid would compete under different nicknames including “Sycho” Sid, “The Master of the Powerbomb” and “The Man Who Rules The World.”

His status as a main eventer led to clashes with wrestling’s biggest stars including The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, The British Bulldog, Bret Hart, Steve Williams, Chris Benoit, and Scott Hall.

A Devastating Injury

Sid would continue competing in WCW until 2001’s Sin pay-per-view. There, he was reportedly told to perform a move from the second rope.

Reluctant to do so, Vicious gave in and attempted a big boot from the second rope, suffering a compound fracture that sidelined him for years.

Showing tremendous willpower, Sid would undergo rigorous physical rehabilitation. Sid would prove doctors wrong by regaining his ability to run. He would work on indie shows and appear at WWE special events including RAW 1000.

According to Sports Illustrated, Sid Vicious:

…wrestled his final match back in 2017. He defeated Paul Rosenberg at the GNW 10th Anniversary Supershow.

“Sycho” Sid wasn’t a technician in the vein of Lou Thesz or Verne Gagne, his legacy as a capable big man puts him in league with other wrestling colossuses such as Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow.
