Brian Knighton, known to wrestling fans as Axl Rotten, is best known for his run with ECW throughout the 90s.
Axl Rotten died from an accidental drug overdose on February 4th, 2016. He was found dead in a McDonalds bathroom in Linthicum, Maryland from a heroin overdose.

Other wrestlers who died in 2016 include Balls Mahoney, Blackjack Mulligan, Chyna, “Iron” Mike Sharpe, and Mr. Fuji.
I think I saw him wrestle once. It was against his brother in a Taipei Death Match against his brother. Complete bloodbath and quite frankly, not much of a match. Can’t believe people subject themselves to that kind of punishment on such a small stage.
I remember those matches against kayfabe brother Ian Rotten. Absolutely brutal. I believe Ian now runs his own promotion in the Midwest.
It’s like Al Snow says in one of his shoot videos, “You’ve got to be a little off to do what we (wrestlers) do. To be an adult and get into a ring in your underwear and beat the hell out of another person. It’s not normal. We’re (wrestlers) not normal.”
