4. Bruiser Brody
Frank Goodish found main event success as one of wrestling’s most talented big men, working under the name Bruiser Brody. While Brody’s intolerance for wrestling promoters’ underhanded tactics often led to short runs in North American promotions, he enjoyed lengthy and prosperous runs in Japan. In 1988, Brody was working in Puerto Rico’s World Wrestling Council when wrestler/booker José Huertas González asked to speak with Brody in private in the locker room’s shower. The other wrestlers in the locker room heard Brody cry out. Wrestler Tony Atlas found Brody clutching his abdomen while a knife-wielding González rushed out of the locker room. Brody died from his stab wounds and González was charged with murder, but acquitted at trial. However, two key witnesses claim they did not receive summonses to testify until after the trial. Brody was 42.
